Questions To Ask Before Botox and Dermal Filler Treatments

If you are new to the medical aesthetics arena and don’t know where to start, Botox and dermal filler treatments are the best non-invasive way to look younger, instantly.  Continue reading and we’ll show you the questions to ask before Botox and dermal filler treatments.

How Do Botox and Dermal Filler Treatments Work?

The muscles in your face create expressions – but the side effects are fine lines, wrinkles, and folds. Botox softens these unwanted side effects and the result is a more rested appearance that, if done right, no one will know you’ve had it done except that you look refreshed. Botox helps to eliminate laugh lines and nasolabial folds, relax deep frown lines and forehead creases, soften crow’s feet, lift drooping eyebrows, correct facial asymmetries, and more.  We use Botox to neutralize specific facial muscles which are the underlying cause of wrinkles.  Not only does Botox relax your wrinkles, it prevents them from forming in the future as long as you maintain a regular Botox injection schedule.

As we age, our face loses volume, and dermal fillers will provide you with the perfect non-surgical solution for facial volume loss. Dermal fillers are used to rejuvenate the skin. They plump thin lips and fill hollow contours under the eyes; restore volume to the cheekbones and cheeks, and; improve the appearance of pitted acne and surgical scars.

Questions To Ask Before Botox and Dermal Filler Treatments

Questions to Ask Before Botox and Dermal Filler Treatments

Before Botox and dermal filler treatments you will want to ask the following questions:

  1. How much time do you have set aside for downtime? As with all medical aesthetic treatments, when it comes to Botox and dermal filler treatments, you need to plan for downtime.  Schedule your Botox and dermal filler treatments at least 2 weeks before a big event so you have enough time to recover.
  2. Can you expect swelling, and if yes, how long will the treatment area be swollen? If you require multiple syringes of filler, swelling may be present for up to one week and you may feel nodules under your skin.  This is normal and the nodules will soften and disappear after one week of your treatment.  Swelling in the lip area is especially common. Be sure to plan for downtime.
  3. Will you be able to avoid extreme hot and cold temperatures? Because swelling is a common but short-lived side effect of Botox and dermal filler treatments, until the initial swelling has diminished, you will need to avoid extreme temperatures.
  4. Will there be bruising and if yes, how can you minimize it? Bruising can occur as a side effect of Botox and dermal filler treatments if you are prone to bruising. For ten days before your treatment, avoid aspirin, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, fish oil, garlic, Ginkgo Biloba, and ginseng.  Drinking green tea and taking Tylenol are a good way to avoid and diminish bruising.
  5. Can you eat after treatment, especially if you have received a dermal filler treatment in your lips?  Eat before you come in, not after, especially if your lips are being treated.  Minimizing chewing and facial expressions is important for up to 4 hours after your treatment. Avoid salt 2 days before and 2 days after your treatment.
  6. What if you suffer from cold sores? If you are prone to cold sores, let our staff know in advance. You will need to take antiviral medication before any procedure around the mouth if you are concerned about cold sores.
  7. Can you exercise after treatment? Get your exercise in before your treatment as exercise is not recommended immediately following or on the day of your treatment.
  8. How can you avoid or minimize pain during treatment? Ice packs and Motrin may be used after your treatment to ease any discomfort. If your eyes have been treated, sleeping with a cold gel mask is comforting.
