Laser Treatments For Skin 101

Have you seen the light?  We have. And it’s a beautiful thing.  It’s so powerful we need to look at it through tinted lenses for safety. And it’s so effective, we can dramatically rejuvenate your skin!  We invite you to enLIGHTen your skincare regimen with laser treatments for skin at the National Laser Institute Med Spa!

Laser treatments for skin boost collagen and elastin production to rejuvenate your skin. The results are often dramatic as fine lines and wrinkles are diminished and smooth, youthful skin is revealed post treatment.  Laser treatments for skin can also diminish dark spots from UV damage on your face, neck, hands, arms and legs.

ARE YOU A CANDIDATE TO GET LASER TREATMENTS FOR SKIN?

Laser Treatments for the Skin 101

If you have fine lines or wrinkles surrounding your eyes, mouth or forehead, acne scarring, or lax crepey skin, then you may be a good candidate.  To find out for certain if you are a candidate to get laser treatments for skin, the National Laser Institute Med Spa offers complimentary consultations.

One of the primary tests used is Fitzpatrick Skin Typing.  This is a visual examination and interview that is used to assess the melanin content of your skin. This test helps us to prepare the most effective laser treatment strategy for your skin type to treat your unique skin concerns.

HOW DO LASERS TREATMENTS FOR THE SKIN WORK?

Fine lines, dark spots, uneven skin color, acne scars, enlarged pores, and broken capillaries… you name it, lasers have the power to improve it. Laser treatments for skin use heat and light to boost production of fibroblasts and fresh collagen in the skin. By increasing collagen production and removing surface damage, these treatments decrease the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, stretch marks and acne scars. These treatments also provide advanced toning, tightening, and an overall improved appearance and texture for the skin.

To understand how laser treatments for skin work, we need to look at the types of laser treatments that are available.  There are three types of laser treatments for skin: ablative, non ablative, and hybrid.

NON ABLATIVE LASERS

Non ablative lasers don’t break the surface of your skin.  You may see results after just one session, but usually a few treatments over time are needed to achieve the best results.

At the National Laser Institute Med Spa, we offer Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing, which is a Level 1 minimally invasive treatment. This is one of our most popular non ablative laser treatments for skin.

The Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing treatment works by thousands of microscopic laser beams making microscopic punctures in your skin, without affecting the surrounding tissue. By treating a portion of the surface of the skin, healing and recovery is faster with few risks. Recovery time depends on how aggressive your treatment is.  Downtime can range from 3-5 days for less aggressive treatments to 7-10 days for more aggressive treatment.

Unlike ablative lasers, which remove the top layer of skin and part of the sub-layer, non ablative fractional lasers keep the outer layer of skin in place. Our Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing treatment delivers the potency of ablative treatments with the gentle safety of non ablative lasers providing dramatic results and less downtime.

ABLATIVE LASERS

Ablative lasers are used for skin resurfacing to correct deep acne scars and diminish wrinkles. The ablative laser actually vaporizes the surface layer of the skin and can result in between 3 to 7 days of downtime.  While the initial side effects include red, raw, and oozing skin, the dramatic results are worth it.

At the National Laser Institute Med Spa, we offer the MicroLaserPeel (Erbium), which is a Level 2 moderately invasive treatment.  This laser resurfacing treatment is designed to remove surface-level and moderate to deep lines and wrinkles on your face, hands, neck, or chest.

HYBRID LASERS

Ablative and non ablative lasers may not always be effective because the treatment can be either too shallow or too deep. A Hybrid laser will eradicate years of damage by precisely targeting just the right depth to restore that luminous glow from your youth.

The Halo Hybrid Fractional Laser is the world’s first hybrid fractional laser.  It’s the only FDA approved laser that offers the benefits of both ablative and non ablative laser treatments for skin. The Halo laser allows for unparalleled results with reduced downtime.  At the National Laser Institute Med Spa, we offer the Halo Hybrid Fractional Laser, which is a Level 3 treatment for advanced skin rejuvenation.

Every client has different skin needs in terms of tone, texture and fine lines.  The customizable dual wavelengths provide us with the ability to tailor treatments for all skin types. The Halo Hybrid Fractional Laser gives us the best of both non ablative and ablative wavelengths. We can accurately dial in the precise treatment necessary for your skin type with amazing results within the desired downtime, usually between 5 and 10 days.

The benefits of the Halo Hybrid Fractional Laser allow us to erase pigmentation, scars, wrinkles and stretch marks on the quick-healing top layer of your skin with the ablative setting. We can improve the tone and texture of your skin by boosting collagen production with the non ablative setting.  In summary, we can achieve the same benefits of a fractional laser and MicroLaserPeel in one treatment with the sublative setting.
