Exfoliate Using 3 Expert Tips

Exfoliate…. It’s one of the most inexpensive, easy things you can do to keep your skin looking great! One of the reasons men have such great skin even as they age is because they shave every day – and this is an excellent way to exfoliate.  As we age, cell turnover slows down and dead skin cells can give us a dull complexion. By taking the time to exfoliate you will slough off dead skin cells revealing glowing, fresh new skin. Added benefits include your moisturizers and serums will be more easily absorbed into your skin and your makeup will glide on more smoothly.

Exfoliate Using 3 Expert Tips

The best time to exfoliate is in the morning. Your skin repairs itself at night so the morning is the perfect time for scrubbing away those dead skin cells.

1. Exfoliate with Gentle SkinMedica Exfoliators and Retinoids

SkinMedica Skin Polisher is an excellent facial exfoliant appropriate for all skin types except sensitive skin. Fragrance-free, the SkinMedica Skin Polisher gently exfoliates the skin without stripping the skin of moisture. This product is generally recommended for use one to two times per week as tolerated to achieve desired exfoliation. Moisten skin with lukewarm water. Apply a small amount to the fingertips, add a little water, and gently exfoliate the face using small circular motions, avoiding the eye area. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.  For an added boost, apply SkinMedica Retinoid every other day before bedtime followed 30 minutes later with SkinMedica TNS serum to moisturize the skin.

2. Exfoliate with a Clarisonic Skincare Brush or Non-mechanical Dry Brush

The Clarisonic Brush is one of those rare beauty tools that is beloved by almost everyone who tries it. Basically a mechanical tool for cleansing the face, you use the Clarisonic with your favorite cleanser to deep clean your pores. It’s a great exfoliator but is expensive costing up to $200. For a less expensive alternative, any beauty store carries non-mechanical dry exfoliating brushes for under $10.

3. Exfoliate with Facials Using Regenerative Skin Therapies Once a Month

Take your exfoliating one step further with stronger products applied by a skincare expert.

Chemical peels are a form of regenerative skin therapy. A chemical peel solution typically contains alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) and/or beta hydroxy acid (BHA). It is applied to the surface of the skin causing the top layer of skin to exfoliate and eventually peel off. This dermabrasion causes the skin to regenerate itself. As the chemical peel lifts dead skin it allows for more skin cells to rise to the surface of the skin. Chemical peels also stimulate the production of collagen beneath the skin. This fills in pitted scars and wrinkles and creates supple, more youthful looking skin.  Your skin will greatly benefit from making chemical peels part of your monthly regimen.

When getting a facial, an added service you may want to ask for is dermaplaning.  Similar to shaving, an aesthetician will use a surgical-grade sterile blade at an angle to gently exfoliate your skin.  The sloughed off skin cells and “peach fuzz” will be gently wiped away at the end of the procedure – revealing a fresh, vibrant skin surface.
