Laser Acne Treatment with Acne Photofacials

Sciton Broad Band Light (BBL) for Acne

The Sciton BBL acne treatment is a type of photofacial skin rejuvenation that specifically focuses on targeting active acne, lesions, red and brown acne scars. It’s most effective for killing the bacteria within the skin that causes acne, causing acne bumps to diminish while decreasing the redness and pigmented acne scars within the skin. The BBL acne is a state-of-the-art laser acne treatment that is noninvasive, safe, and effective.

Between 40 and 50 million Americans suffer from acne, whether they be teenagers or adults. Everyone can agree on one thing about acne, though: it’s embarrassing and a hassle. Nobody feels confident going out in public with bumps and spots on their face, which is why we’ve introduced the BBL acne photofacial into our medical spa.

How Acne Photofacials Work

The Sciton BBL laser acne treatment works by heating up layers of your skin through cosmetic heat and energy, targeting the areas that promote new skin cell growth. The photothermal energy also targets pigments within the skin, like brown spots and redness, and helps by evening out your skin tone. Finally, the Sciton BBL acne laser treatment uses a unique filter that creates a “blue light effect,” which is able to destroy the bacteria that forms acne. With this additional blue light process, acne and acne scars will diminish through a series of treatments.

Pre and Post Treatment Care

Two weeks before your treatment, avoid mass exposure to UV light and sun rays, topical acidic creams, self-tanners, hydroquinone, and retinoids. Also, avoid alcohol consumption and smoking 48 hours prior to your treatment. Make sure you have removed all makeup and that your skin is clean as well.

After treatment, it’s imperative to wear sunscreen in order to protect the skin. Your skin will be ultra sensitive, even though it won’t feel like it is, so it’s best to treat it gently. Avoid strenuous activity for 72 hours, and avoid makeup application for 24 hours. If you feel swollen or red, gentle ice packs may be applied to the skin. Because acne photofacials are very minimal in their invasiveness, side effects are few and far between if you listen and abide your laser technician’s instructions.

BBL Acne Photofacial Treatments

  • Minimizes irregular skin pigmentation

  • Promotes even skin tones

  • Helps eliminate redness, such as rosacea

  • Diminishes fine lines and wrinkles

  • Reduces active acne

  • Eliminates brown and red acne scarring

  • Diminishes spider veins

  • Helps reduce signs of sun damage

How BBL Photofacials Differ from Normal Other IPL Photofacials

Regular photofacials are effective for removing all of the above by using intensive pulsed light therapy, but BBL acne photofacials take it one step further by using the blue light technology to tackle the specific problem of active acne and acne scars.
