PDO Thread Lip Enhancement

lip enhancement PDO threadsOver the last few years, lip fillers have been the go-to cosmetic procedure to achieve the infamous lip pout. Lip-enhancing procedures became one of the most popular cosmetic treatments as celebrities and models started to share their secrets for natural-looking results. However, the filler has a new competitor on the market, PDO threads. Also minimally invasive, PDO thread lip enhancement is another great alternative to a rather invasive plastic surgery or implants.

PDO Thread Lip Enhancement

The treatment passes threads through the outlining of the lips and defines them, similar to what an injectable filler would do. PDO (Polydioxanone) thread is a small surgical stitch that dissolves under the skin and boost natural collagen production where injected. The synthetic is made from chemical polymers. As a result, PDO threads have the ability to reduce wrinkles, improve skin quality, and redefine and contour areas of the face. Furthermore, the non-surgical treatment requires no cutting of the skin and no invasive incisions.

Dermal Filler for Lips

There are many families and types of dermal fillers in the aesthetic medical industry. The cosmetic treatment is a gel-like injectable with the majority today, containing a hyaluronic acid-base. These are particularly popular in smoothing, plumping, and adding volume to areas of the face. Also a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment with little to no downtime that poses minimal risks or side effects.

Difference Between Filler and PDO Thread

There are many differences in filler and PDO thread for lip enhancement. For example, from the way they are administered, to manufacturing, and more. The difference in results between the two is that threads are meant to just define areas whereas filler is meant to define and add volume. As a result, some patients record better definition and onset results with PDO threads! The only similarity between the two is that they are both used to achieve similar results.

Types of PDO Threads

There are many types of threads to choose from. Your injector will inform you of all types, and the difference in their results. Together, you will decide on the best thread for your treatment. Common names you may see here are:

  • Mono Threads
  • Screw Threads
  • Cog Threads

What To Expect

PDO thread lip enhancement is roughly only a 45-minute appointment. The onset results for most patients are dramatically effective, with the ability to see the outcome almost immediately. The threads dissolve under the skin in roughly 4-6 months but the effects last much longer, up to 12 months depending on the thread type.

Side Effects

Similar to other cosmetic procedures, there is a potential risk associated with PDO thread. Overall, the threads cause little to no discomfort and have a very minimal risk of side effects.

  • Pain and tenderness
  • Puckering of the skin
  • Bleeding and bruising
  • Infection
  • Swelling and inflammation
  • Asymmetry of the lips
  • Nerve trauma

Additional Treatment Options

If you’re looking to spend an afternoon at a med spa, you’re in luck! You can combine PDO threads with a number of other treatment options. Pair your new PDO thread lips with IPL, CoolSculpting, and injectable Botox and Dermal fillers for the ultimate day of skin rejuvenation.
