8 Pre-Treatment Tips for Botox and Dermal Filler

8 Dermal Filler & Botox Tips For Pre & Post Care

  1. Timing is everything.  As with all medical aesthetic treatments, when it comes to Botox and dermal fillers, you need to plan for downtime.  Schedule your Botox and dermal filler treatments at least 2 weeks before a big event to recover.
  2. Swelling is a common side effect from Botox and dermal filler treatments.  Until the initial swelling has diminished, do not expose the treated area to extreme heat or cold.
  3. If you require multiple syringes of filler, swelling may be present for up to one week and you may feel nodules under your skin.  This is normal and the nodules will soften and disappear after one week of your treatment.  Swelling in the lip area is especially common. Be sure to plan for downtime.
  4. Avoid aspirin, Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, fish oil, garlic, Ginkgo Biloba, ginseng and green tea for 10 days prior to your treatment to diminish bruising. You can take Tylenol.
  5. Avoid salt 2 days before and 2 days after your treatment.  Eat before you come in, especially if your lips are being treated.  Minimizing chewing and facial expressions is important for up to 4 hours after your treatment.
  6. If you are prone to cold sores, let our staff know in advance.  Prescription antiviral medication is advised before any procedure around the mouth if you are concerned about cold sores.
  7. Get your exercise in before your treatment as exercise is not recommended later on in the day of your treatment.
  8. Ice packs and Motrin may be used after your treatment to ease discomfort.  If your eyes have been treated, sleeping with a cold gel mask is comforting.
